Once in their sights you almost have no choice but to be theirs, so you would think..From Limerence and now Limerence II Claire has put her own twist on the classic vampire story and made it her own. In LI I was automatically compelled to like Mr.Breckt because vampires are alluring, handsome, and well sexy. Mr.Breckt was all those things but the story wasn’t your typical vampire gets the girl- no Claire showed the darker side and took things a lot darker with LII.

In LI we meet the irresistible Mia and the mysterious new owner of The Island Mr.Breckt. There’s something about her that Mr.Breckt can't seem to ignore. He is not use to being told no, shouldn't be told no, for it is part of his power as a Bastion(a vampire with a rare and particular power). But Mia fights his advances until his obsession destroys everything she loves.

With the promise of Mr.Breckt to suffer - then his truth death, Mia has pledge her allegiance to the Queen. At the time his demise was all that mattered to Mia, for Oliver’s death was magnified with her turning (once vampire every emotion is felt 10 fold) and Mia had wanted nothing but to see Mr.Breckt meet the same fate. But as time went on the love that Mia had held so dear no longer mattered, it was another life, a life that was no more-

Mia, a relatively new vampire she has a lot to learn, and under the rule of the Queen she is ordered to do just that- to train and learn by Evan another Bastion vampire. Her training is of the utmost importance as to all Bastions and Pawns (standard vampires) alike, for they are in training to wage war against Mr.San(the Queen’s oldest enemy). Having to train together every single day, Mia and Evan start developing feeling for one another, but of course are forbidden to act on upon their emotions-for Evan belongings to the Queen.
Fighting against her feelings towards Evan isn’t the only demon Mia is battling- “With the extra power that came with being a Bastion, something new developed—something more dangerous that threatened to devour each and every one of us if we could not control it. Within each of us—each Bastion—lay a passenger vampire. A vampire who was stronger and more evil than all the world’s hatred put together. If left to grow and takeover the bodies they hid in, and not controlled, tamed, and put back to sleep, all hell would break loose. Or so I have been told.”
“She resides inside of me. She is strong. She is my tormentor, but I am strong, and she has not won control yet.”
Will Mia be able to keep her demons at by or will she be too overwhelmed and in a moment of weakness let her passenger vampire slip to the surface. And what would that mean for Mia?
My silver lining- "In the end, there can only be one survivor."
After finishing LII we know it most certainly is not the end. And I’m a HEA kind of girl so I’m holding on to a sliver of hope.

slow until about 60% into the book...almost gave up. Probably won't get the 3rd unless it was free
This is a series I definitely recommend. This is one of those books that I just really love. I can click with the characters, smile with them, and feel the angst with them. I can't wait for the third book.
Good book but I think I would have liked a different ending. But it was still good.

I am not really much of a paranormal reader...the occasional shifter book, maybe a zombie thriller here and there and of course, a bloody vampire story. I have not read a really good vampire book since Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice (hot and dangerous) or The Twilight Series (light and romantic) and then earlier this year I was introduced to Limerence by Claire C. Riley. That first book was lusty, sensual, romantic and sickly twisted and I loved the romance between Mia and her 100 year old vampire employer...it was a battle of wills as he wanted to earn her love and not take her against her will.
Limerence II starts off a year after Mia's life was forever altered and she is left fighting with a very strong and powerful dark force inside of herself. Evan is a strong Bastion vampire (he has more powers than a Pawn vampire) who is her trainer...he tries to teach her to control herself as she is a new vampire and has a lot to learn about discipline and what it takes to be part of the Queen's army of vampires that she is building to fight the mysterious Mr. San.
I couldn't help but think as I was reading, that if the author was a vampire she would probably be Mia...because even though she has lost her humanity, she still "feels" emotions with Evan and has a playful, flirty side to her. Mia has a vicious creature inside of her that she is fighting to control...something that thinks nothing of taking human lives and killing with no remorse...and who would gladly kill any shred of decency left in Mia and take everything she wants, including the handsome and powerful Evan.
The relationship between Evan and Mia is forbidden by the Queen..he is to train her but they are not allowed to be lovers...so this sets the stage for some of the most erotic, edge of insanity and yet playful encounters as they must resist the intense sexual attraction they have for each other. When something happens to Mia that forever changes who she is in Evan's eyes (but not his dead, lonely heart), he really struggles and becomes torn by his feelings for who Mia was and the monster she has become.
I have to say that the descriptions of some of the "feedings" were so sensual and exciting that they could rival some of the hottest erotic romances I have read... and there is a room called the Commons...well let's just say that anything goes and "what happens in the Commons, stays in the Commons". I was alternating between hot and very hot as I was reading...so much excitement and action packed into one little book and with a love story SO intense and heart-breakingly tragic, that I was kept on edge until the very end. I was left with mixed emotions about the ending, not because it was bad, more because it was not what I was personally hoping for....but it made sense. Without giving away too much, there will be at some points threesomes, foursomes, couples and faces from the past all trying to fight for supremacy and for the ones they love.
"The things we do for love can never be forgiven"...couldn't have said it any better...
It will all make sense when you read it but please be sure to read book one first, or you will miss the history of how Mia came to be and nothing will really make sense.
I am not often surprised but more so disappointed when a sequel doesn't live up to the first book...however, this one more than exceeded my expectations and I actually loved it even more so than the original!
